Agro-farming: coffee and cocoa for West Nile

Improved planting material and climate-smart practice to diversify smallholder income beyond subsistence crops.

IDPN raises and distributes improved crop seedlings, including coffee and cocoa, so that farming households in West Nile can move beyond subsistence and build an income from crops with long-term economic value.

The first nursery was heavily affected by a prolonged dry season, which cost much of the planting stock before distribution. Rather than treat that as a closed chapter, the Network has folded the lesson into the design of the next round: water management at the nursery, drought-tolerant practice at the farm, and staged distribution timed to the rains.

The programme is supported technically by Afeku Ronald, whose background in agriculture and land management shapes the extension approach, and it connects to the Network's wider work on food security and sustainable livelihoods.
