Access to safe and reliable water remains one of the most immediate needs raised by the communities IDPN works with. The Muslim Projects Department, led by Sheikh Adam Okua, coordinates the development of water sources for communities, mosques, schools and other institutions where the nearest safe supply is a long walk away.

The work covers new boreholes, rehabilitation of existing sources and the hygiene promotion that has to accompany them. Water committees are formed and trained before a source is handed over, so that maintenance is owned locally rather than left to the next visiting organisation.

These interventions contribute directly to improved health, dignity, hygiene and community resilience, and they reduce the time women and girls spend collecting water, time that returns to school, to work and to the household.
