The founding member of the Islamic Development Partnership Network, Hon. Avako Naima Gule Musa, who also serves as the Woman Member of Parliament for Yumbe District, joined women from the community during a sensitisation session aimed at addressing domestic violence, promoting peaceful families and increasing awareness about HIV and Hepatitis prevention.
During the engagement, Hon. Avako Naima Gule Musa sat among the women, demonstrating solidarity, accessibility and commitment to listening to the concerns affecting women at the grassroots level. Her participation reflected the importance of creating safe spaces where women can openly discuss challenges, seek guidance and access information that can improve their health, safety and overall well-being.
The programme, conducted by the Islamic Development Partnership Network, focused on empowering women with knowledge about the causes and effects of domestic violence, the support systems available, and the importance of promoting respect, communication and harmony within families. Participants were encouraged to speak out against violence, seek help when necessary, and work together to build communities where women and children are protected from abuse.
The session also provided important information on HIV and Hepatitis, including prevention measures, the importance of regular testing, early treatment, and reducing stigma against people living with these conditions. Women were encouraged to take responsibility for their health and to share the knowledge gained with their families and communities.
Hon. Avako Naima Gule Musa emphasised the critical role women play in strengthening families and communities. She encouraged women to support one another, prioritise their health, and participate actively in initiatives that promote social and economic empowerment.
She further appreciated the efforts of the Islamic Development Partnership Network in organising community-based programmes that address issues affecting vulnerable groups. She noted that awareness creation and education are essential tools for preventing domestic violence, improving health outcomes and building stronger communities.
The Director of the Network, Mr. Draga Osman Brahan, highlighted that the organisation remains committed to working with communities through sensitisation programmes, capacity building and empowerment initiatives. He noted that addressing social challenges requires collaboration among leaders, community members and development partners.
The women who participated in the session welcomed the initiative, saying the knowledge gained would help them make informed decisions, protect their families, and contribute to creating a healthier and more peaceful society.
